Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses a series of aligners to gradually straighten your teeth and jaw. Each aligner is made from SmartTrack®, an FDA-approved tough and durable thermoplastic.
Invisalign can address the same issues as traditional braces. The main difference is that you don’t have to worry about rubber bands, brackets, wires, or routine adjustments. You can remove your aligners while eating, so you can still eat your favorite snacks, including pretzels and popcorn.
Laser Dental Group uses Invisalign to correct various alignment issues, including:
You might also benefit from Invisalign treatment if you have a malpositioned jaw.
Invisalign treatment begins with a comprehensive in-office consultation. During your appointment, the Laser Dental Group team conducts an oral exam, reviews your dental health history, and asks about your goals for treatment. They then take oral X-rays to assess the position of your teeth and jaw.
After a thorough assessment, your dentist takes digital impressions of your teeth. They upload your impressions to a computer-aided design (CAD) program and develop a custom care plan by mapping out the movements of your teeth and jaw.
Once Laser Dental Group approves a plan, the team sends your impressions to a dental laboratory that manufactures your first set of Invisalign aligners. About a week later, you return to the office and try on your first set of aligners.
To ensure an optimal outcome, make sure to wear your aligners 20-22 hours each day. In addition, attend all follow-up appointments and follow your dentist’s instructions carefully.
The length of time Invisalign treatment takes depends on the issues being treated and your adherence to the plan. Most people see significant results within 6-12 months, but it may take 18 months or longer. Once you’re finished with Invisalign treatment, you transition to a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting.
To keep your Invisalign aligners in optimal shape, it’s important to clean them regularly. Laser Dental Group recommends rinsing them with tap water a few times each day and brushing them with a soft-bristle toothbrush before going to bed at night. For more extensive cleanings, ask Laser Dental Group about the Invisalign cleaning system.
